Microsoft South Africa reports Vista Woes

[ VIA YAY Bash Microsoft again! ]

Microsoft SA has said that there have been difficulties for resellers and end-users around the launch of its Vista operating system. Why are we not shocked!

Furthermore they say there "have been problems with its communications to its channel." Microsoft have always been bad at communicating with system stake holders and channel resellers, so I am still not surprised.

They further indicate that "these communications were not properly planned." They have planned three campaigns for this year to rectify the situation.

The article quoted Tarsus CEO Pierre Spiese "Local distributors, OEMs and resellers have been battling with bulk image blasting, the time and expense of downgrading unhappy customers back to Windows XP, and second-line support."

"Vista doesn't support bulk image blasting; it's just not here yet. We believe the product was launched too soon. [Microsoft has] a lot of catching up to do. Corporates are buying new machines with Vista on and downgrading to XP, in anticipation of Vista being ready in the next two to three years. They are buying the licence, but do not plan to use it until the product is ready."

The article goes on to say that Spies says the situation is interfering with the company's business model. "We're taking serious flak. We've got people arriving in droves to downgrade."

He says the company is downgrading roughly 25% of the Vista machines it sells. "Consumers are not taking a long-term view like the corporates are, they just want it gone."

And rightly so in my view. Each new version of M$ operating system just seems to suck a little bit more than the one before, and tie you a little bit deeper into M$ strangle hold.

If you have bricked your PSP read on...

I just didn't have the courage to risk bricking my PSP. Even with the promise of homebrew and ripped games. But now I might just give it a shot! Noobz has come up with genius method of unbricking your psp by installing the firmware onto your memorystick.

  1. You run a program on a homebrew-enabled psp
that will convert a standard PSP battery into a jigkick battery. Note
that you can't then use that battery normally - so you should use a
    spare one.

  2. You run a program to generate the unbricker memorystick image, built from the v1.5 update EBOOT (note that this, and the custom IPL, means the release is completely free of Sony copyright materials).

  3. You run some programs on a PC to install the image to your memory stick.
Hope this info helps. Go here for more detail on what to do.

South African Govt attempts Wikipedia censorship over HIV

[ Via ]

It seems that employees of the South African state were vandalizing the Wikipedia's entry of South Africa's HIV/Aids policies, ITWeb reveals. And we all know how willing the South African government and our health department are to face up to the problems of HIV and AIDS in our country.

According to the article: "Wikipedia`s edit history for the article “HIV/Aids in South Africa” shows repeated vandalism from IP address 164.151.130.36. This address resolves to a machine called mx1.statssa.gov.za, located just off the Ben Schoeman highway in Centurion, and is owned and operated by the South African government."

Further more it says "The edit history of the HIV/Aids entry shows the person – or persons – making multiple deletions on 27 July." ... "the person removed the introduction to the topic along with supporting references. This was replaced with the comment: “I think that was all bullshit, thats why i deleted it. Thank you motherf***er! [sic]”

And "The second edit sees the “effects” section of the entry removed. The third and fourth edits remove references to Pieter Fourie`s article: "The Political Management of HIV and Aids in South Africa: One burden too many?" and the Aids Portal SA Web page respectively."

Just goes to show that people are looking out for the validity of the content on Wikipedia!

Tattoo: Mario Themed 3/4 Sleeve

So I am keen on Mario, hell I grew up playing it. I am also really glad to see Nintendo is making a comeback. But a Mario tattoo 3/4 the way up my arm...dunno if I am too keen on that. I mean it's not like one would regret this tattoo in 10 years time! All I can say is that I hope they have improved laser removal by then!
